Mason is the place for you to grow as a scholar, global citizen, and community leader.  The Office of Diversity Programs & Services seeks to provide academic advising/advocacy, mentoring, and programming that facilitates the healthy development of students of Black/African Heritage.

The office strives to maintain a commitment to the development of support structures that are student centered.  It is our hope to engage students in a process of insuring the quality of our dynamic Mason community for your needs both personal and professional.  Our commitment is to provide a space for the exchange of ideas and values between the diverse voices and identities that make up the Mason community. Ultimately we strive to assist in the creation of a successful learning community for students of Black/African Heritage here at George Mason University.

The day to day practice for the Assistant Director for Black/African Heritage Student Affairs is committed to 3 objectives:

  1. Support -To support the university curricular, programming, and support offerings for students of Black/African Heritage.
  2. Develop - To help students of Black/African Heritage to develop a critical level of multicultural competency and diversity awareness that will assist them in preparation to work in the global marketplace.
  3. Community - To encourage the development of long-term bonds within the Black/African Heritage community and with the Mason community to increase support and outreach opportunities for future students and alumni.

It is the hope of the Office of Diversity Programs & Services to create a satisfying learning environment for the potential student of Black/African Heritage through a wide range of program offerings academic, social, and developmental alike; to the end of fostering a climate of success.
