With a record setting 126 registered golfers for the 19th annual Diversity Scholarship Golf Classic the stars were aligned for a successful event. Pleasant Valley Golf Club provided a beautiful setting on a gorgeous day as the event began with remarks from Coach Hewitt and former Washington Redskins Hall of Famer and current broadcaster, Brian Mitchell. Title sponsor, Sandy Spring Bank and Jay O’Brien, donated a surprise red, white and blue Congressional Cup golf bag at the live auction (Master of Ceremonies and Golf Classic Co-Chair, Ty Johnson, took it home) which helped contribute to the raising of more than $45,000 in scholarship funding for first generation college students. Mr. George Angulo of Domino’s Pizza also threw in a surprise at the lunch auction by doubling a winner’s pizza for a year prize. Fun was had by all especially with Early Identification Program (EIP) and Student Transition and Empowerment Program (STEP) students chatting with participants at lunch. Special thanks to Mason volunteers and members of the University Life Advisory Board (Jim Green, Ty Johnson, Annie Bolger, Paul Patton, Terry Wang, and Bill Washington) for all of their help executing a fabulous event!
