Class Project Inspires Student to Grow, Donate Produce to Mason Food Pantry

An early morning mist remains as Dean Pike reaches for the plump tomatoes he raises in his urban garden plot in Vienna.

Pike, a retired federal government employee taking classes at George Mason University, said his garden is a place for meditation and a place to meet and share ideas with other green thumbs.

On this July morning the tomatoes in his bag aren’t destined for his own kitchen, but for the pop-up pantry at George Mason.
