Ditch the Myths. Know the Facts.
Know the facts about marijuana and vaping so you can make informed choices that support your health, well-being, and success. Most students aren’t using—choose to be smoke-free.
Decriminalization vs. Legalization
Decriminalization is not the same as legalization. Even if marijuana is decriminalized in your state, it’s still illegal to possess and use. It simply means reduced penalties (such as a fine instead of jail). Selling and manufacturing remain crimes. And remember: marijuana is still illegal at the federal level. George Mason is a federally funded institution, and marijuana is prohibited on our campus.

Residential Students
Vaping and smoking weed in residence halls doesn’t just affect you—it affects everyone around you:
-
The smell often travels and leads to complaints from neighbors.
-
Exhaling near smoke detectors can trigger false fire alarms, disrupting the whole building.
-
Secondhand exposure means others are impacted without choosing to be.
-
Creates an uncomfortable or unsafe environment in shared spaces.
