The idea that preventing and addressing sexual assault is “on all of us,” as George Mason University President Ángel Cabrera wrote earlier this week, was poignantly delivered when several audience members at Tuesday’s Freedom and Learning Forum shared their stories of abuse.
One survivor in the audience credited George Mason’s resources with helping her in the recovery process. “I owe a lot to Mason,” she said, then asked how she could help others.
That healing process took center stage at the forum, sponsored by the Office of the President, the Division of University Life’s Leadership Education and Development Office, and the Fear 2 Freedom organization.
The forum focused on George Mason’s initiative to eradicate sexual assault on campus, and elicited an emotional response among an audience of more than 200 students, staff, faculty, community members and the media.
