George Mason University students welcomed mothers, fathers, siblings and grandparents to the green and gold campus Friday as Family Weekend began under sunny skies and brisk fall temperatures.
Families dropped by the popular Taste of Mason on the South Plaza. James and Sherril Buckner joined daughter Mary, 19, a sophomore from Williamsburg. They were looking forward to attending the Welcome Dinner and comedian Gabriel Iglesias’ act at the Patriot Center. Saturday, they planned to join thousands of other students and family members to catch the Mason Madness basketball season kick-off, including the chance to see Doc Nix and the Green Machine.
Rick Beauregard of Plainfield, Conn., brought his children Jayden, 5; Sydney, 11; Jaime, 15; and Jared, 17 to visit their 19-year-old brother Jordan, a sophomore. They explained that Mom Kim and youngest son, Wyatt, 2, had to miss Family Weekend fun to stay home and take care of the family’s seven dogs and two cats. The siblings were looking forward to seeing movies, attending Patriots Day Saturday and the Green Eggs and Ham Brunch on Sunday. Jared, a high school senior, said he’s so impressed with Mason, he hopes to follow his big brother’s footsteps.
