Family Weekend 2019: Save the date + Where to stay

Now that we have wrapped up the spring semester and Commencement celebrations, we are gearing up for this year’s Family Weekend, which will take place November 8-10, 2019!

Family Weekend is a long-standing tradition here at Mason, and it is a time for families to come back to campus and experience the same spirit that our students enjoy throughout the year. By participating in this weekend of fun-filled events, you can gain a glimpse into your student’s life at Mason, its academic excellence, and the energy of our vibrant campus.

Class of 2019 ready to make an impact on the world

Members of the largest and most diverse graduating class in George Mason University history were urged Friday at the 52nd annual Spring Commencement to determine how they will make a positive impact on the world, no matter their chosen field of study.

The featured speaker, United Nations Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed, called on Mason graduates to be sources of ideas and innovation to confront global challenges as “the leaders and torchbearers our world so desperately needs.”

Mason’s 52nd Commencement: In Pictures

Mason’s 52nd Commencement on Friday celebrated the graduation of 9,296 students from 48 states and 81 countries, and featured addresses from UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed and government and international politics major Erik Truong.

Just-In-Time Hiring Fair

Encourage your student to make the most of our Career Launch and Just-In-Time Hiring Fair on Monday, May 20, which is combined this year to help your student make the most of their job search.

University Career Services is offering pre-fair Career Launch workshops to help your student prepare and maximize their potential impact on employers at the fair. All workshops take place in the West Lounge, 3rd floor of the Johnson Center.

Mental Health First Aid: Sessions in May and June

Counseling and Psychological Services and University Life are pleased to offer Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Training to members of the university community.

MHFA is designed to provide participants with basic skills to help someone experiencing a mental health or substance use-related crisis. MHFA helps you to learn risk factors and warning signs for mental health and addiction concerns. The session covers depression and mood disorders, anxiety disorders, trauma, psychosis, and substance use disorders.

Mason Day celebrates the end of the school year

Don’t trash, donate! Patriot Packout

A year’s worth of late-night grocery store trips, care packages, and assembled furniture can leave students with more than they can transport home. George Mason University’s annual Patriot Packout offers students the opportunity to avoid the trash stream and donate their unwanted items to their local community. Rather than discarding them, on-campus students at our Fairfax campus are invited to donate their clothing (clean/lightly used), small household appliances, furniture, and non-perishable food to our campus and community partners in the donation bins placed in each residence hall’s lobby.

Undergraduate tuition frozen for 2019-2020 academic year

On May 2, George Mason University’s Board of Visitors approved a $1.25 billion budget for the 2019-20 academic year that includes a one-year tuition freeze for all in-state and out-of-state undergraduate students. The budget also increases financial aid, grows research and innovation, and raises salaries for faculty and staff.

Commencement 2019: Celebrating Mason’s graduates

More than 7,500 students are eligible to take part in the 52nd annual George Mason University Spring Commencement on Friday, May 17 at 10 a.m. in EagleBank Arena on the Fairfax campus and college/school degree celebrations starting Wednesday, May 15.
